VL Router Base - Foredom-Compatible (SM Handpiece Version)

This version of the VL Router Base is precision-built for the SM-branded Foredom-style rotary handpiece, bringing the full VL modular system to one of the most popular shaft-driven tools in the shop.

It includes a weighted baseplate for smooth operation and a weighted rest to safely hold the tool when a bit is installed.

One key feature: you can swap bits without removing the handpiece. No teardown. No reset. Just efficient, uninterrupted work.

This version has a personal story. After building the pneumatic version, Doug Proper asked if I could design one for the SM handpiece. I bought one just to model it - but when I paired it with the VL base, it felt right. The control, the balance, the workflow - I ended up buying the system for myself.

The full kit also includes two mounted Olight iMini 2 flashlights for direct, focused lighting, and maintains the signature VL feature: 1mm-per-rotation height adjustment with a locking knob.
